South Asian PP: Prices move down amid oversupply; weak demand persists / Indian producers expect prices to be near the bottom / Heavier monsoon, floods push back raffia demand

South Asian polypropylene prices fell in the week ended Sept. 17 as oversupply and subdued buying interest amid a downtrend in prices weighed on discussions, while US import tariffs and a stronger US dollar against the Indian currency further weighed on sentiment. PP raffia/injection grade down $5 from the last assessment at $865/mt CFR South Asia Sept. 17, below the lowest offer heard and corroborated at $870/mt and above the most competitive bid heard at $850/mt. The assessment was also in line with a deal heard at $865/mt and was within tradable indications heard at $860-$870/mt. Ample domestic supply in India, the largest consumer of PP in South Asia, is pressuring domestic producers to attract buying interest with discounts and schemes such as price protection.
