Asian PET: Prices climb on stronger crude, cautious buying / FOB China Sep-loading offers higher on limited supply / MEG remains tight in China: sources

Asian bottle-grade polyethylene terephthalate prices rose in the week to Sept. 2, supported by stronger feedstock costs while buyers remain cautious. PET FOB China at $1,100/metric ton Sept. 2, up $55/mt from the previous week. PET FOB Southeast Asia was $20/mt higher at $1,165/mt over the same period. Upstream, the ICE November Brent futures contract rose $9.79/barrel week over week to $94.94/b at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT) on Sept. 2. On the feedstock front, Asian purified terephthalic acid up $73/mt week over week at $881/mt FOB China, while Asian monoethylene glycol rose $120/mt to $800/mt CFR China. Market participants reported that September-loading offers were $20–30/mt higher than October-loading offers, as some producers had no September cargoes available.
