Asian ABS: Prices rise as demand picks up / CFR China ABS up $60/mt at $1,550/mt / Feedstock cost rises to $1,659.20/mt

Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene CFR China at $1,550/metric ton on Sept. 2, up $60/mt week over week. A trade for 100 mt of ABS was heard in the CFR China market earlier in the week at $1,570-$1,580/mt. “Buyers are entering the market now due to fears that feedstock costs may continue to surge,” a Northeast Asia-based trade source said. “Due to rising crude and styrene monomer prices, many orders came in yesterday,” a Northeast Asia-based producer said. “Still, losses persist in the ABS market.” According to calculations, the feedstock cost for ABS, determined as the weighted average of feedstock styrene monomer, butadiene and acrylonitrile costs plus a fixed charge of $280/mt, was at $1,659.20/mt on Sept. 2, up $68.95/mt from the previous week.
