India PTA: Prices rise led by upstream PX values, high freight costs / Container, bulk vessel unavailability adds to import tightness / PTA buyers’ runs constrained by tight imports, local supply

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India rose in the week to Sept. 4, led by a rise in feedstock paraxylene values, while rising freight costs and difficulty in getting containers as well as bulk vessels further supported the uptick. PTA CFR India down $4/mt day over day but up $49/mt week over week at $964/mt on Sept. 4, maintaining the spread to PTA CFR China at $88/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $70-$90/mt over PTA CFR China, which equated to $946-$966/mt on a CFR India basis. The spread widened from $85/mt last week.
