Asian polyethylene terephthalate prices fell in the week to Sept. 24, amid weaker upstream costs and limited buying appetite. Asian PET at $750/mt FOB Northeast Asia on Sept. 24, down $5/mt week over week, while FOB Southeast Asia was assessed at $825/mt, down $5/mt over the same period. Producers in China and Southeast Asia continued to lower offer levels during the week, pressured by overall downtrend of upstream MEG and PTA prices. "The export market is relatively weak [as it is] off season. It has been relatively weak these two months," said a China-based producer. A trader in China expressed bearish macro-level sentiments, citing higher risk-aversion in the market and falling crude prices.
