US aromatics: Prices drop 2 cents amid bearish market / Outlook on gasoline bearish / Solvents prices fall in August

Mixed xylene and nitration grade toluene prices remained subdued on the US Gulf Coast in the week ended Aug. 15, falling 2 cents amid continued weak gasoline demand. Most toluene and MX is currently going into gasoline, a source said, with a number of market participants saying they are bearish on gasoline. “Things very quiet and business is slow,” a second source said. “Demand has been an issue all year long for gasoline.” The second source cited the increased adoption of electric vehicles and the rise of more fuel-efficient traditional engines as potential reasons for the sluggish summer driving season.
