Prices in the Indian polyethylene market firmed in the week to Sept. 23 amid depleting inventories due to firmer festive demand and turnarounds, while offers remained thin. Uncertainty over shipping routes from the Middle East, which extended voyage times, added upward pressure on tradable indications, market sources said. A market participant said that in recent times, some alternative sales methods through the free trade zone had also dropped during the week for most PE grades, further reducing supply in India. A trader said that while demand had fallen slightly and become need-based, it was still holding steady, and the drop in crude prices added stability to the sentiment.
