India PTA: Price falls tracking PX values; market bearish / Tariffs, cheaper downstream imports dent local demand / Availability of shipment space from Southeast Asia tight

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell day over day and week over week Aug. 8, in line with feedstock paraxylene values that eased tracking losses in upstream crude oil, while subdued demand for downstream PTA in China also weighed on PX. Geopolitical developments once again dominated headlines, adding downside pressure to crude futures. The front-month ICE October Brent crude oil futures were down 67 cents/b to $66.36/b at the Asian close on Aug. 8. PTA CFR India down $6/mt day over day and $12/mt week over week at $697/mt on Aug. 8, placing the spread to CFR China at $75/mt. The weekly average was down $13.20/ mt at $702.80/mt CFR India.
