Asian Styrene Monomer: Prices rangebound amid thin holiday trade / Markets close for Mid-Autumn, Chuseok holidays / Southeast Asia coating, resin demand weakens

Styrene monomer CFR China and FOB Korea at $1,331/metric ton and $1,371/mt on Sept. 24, down $2/mt day over day, on thin trade as market participants were away for regional holidays. China’s markets are closed from Sept. 25-27 for the Mid- Autumn festival. South Korea’s markets were closed Sept. 24-25 for the Chuseok holidays. Elsewhere, Southeast Asia’s demand was heard weaker as buying sentiment remained soft, according to regional market participants. “Demand is weaker than expected, especially from the coating and resin sectors. Meanwhile, the upstream market remains highly volatile,” a Southeast Asia-based trader said. Still, prices were supported by higher freight rates, given tighter diesel and low- sulfur fuel oil supplies, the trader added.
