Asian PVC: Prices firm on elevated feedstocks, freight cost / Market activity slows ahead of festival holidays / Elevated freight costs push buyers toward alternatives / Chinese PVC exports up 45% MOM in Aug

Asian polyvinyl chloride prices were higher in the week to Sept. 23, supported by elevated feedstock and sea freight costs. PVC CFR China at $855/metric ton on Sept. 23, up $5/mt week over week, while PVC CFR Southeast Asia rose $20/mt to $825/mt over the same period. A major Taiwan-based producer was heard to have raised its October PVC offers by $10-$25/mt compared with its September offers, with CIF prices at $860/mt for China, $850-$900/mt for Southeast Asia and $975/mt for India. “Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) costs have risen by $70/mt from last week, and surging sea freight costs are causing CFR prices to rise,” a South Korean producer said. “For now, there is no doubt that CFR PVC prices are moving higher due to dominant cost factors, despite resistance...
