Asian Propylene: Prices move up WOW; CFR China inching lower / Shandong domestic price falls for third day / Downstream PP market softens

Asian propylene prices rose week over week from Aug. 8, but the daily assessed CFR China market was inching lower toward the end of the week as domestic market prices also weakened. The softening CFR China price, down $1/mt day over day at $775/ mt on Aug. 15, tracked a weaker domestic Shandong market, where prices weakened for the third day in a row. A trader said this was likely due to increased run rates in Shandong in reaction to the previous rise in propylene prices in China, as well as weaker downstream polypropylene. The CFR China marker was up $4/mt week over week as China’s Zhenhua Petrochemical shut down its propane dehydrogenation plant on Aug. 11 due to a technical issue, reported.
