Asian PP: Ample availability, lackluster demand weighs on PP prices / Lower prices in Chinese domestic market spur restocking / Anticipation of rising supplies in SE Asia mute buying interest

Asian polypropylene prices across most grades held steady during the week ended Aug. 13, with market sources noting that the bulk of trading activity was largely concentrated in the respective domestic markets, and little trade activity for imports. In the key China market, several suppliers who were heard to be facing mounting inventory pressures lowered prices in efforts to stimulate buyers’ interest. This price adjustment saw buyers emerge to replenish stocks from the domestic market. PP raffia cargoes in the eastern part of the country were heard traded at Yuan 7,000-7,030/mt ex-works, down by Yuan 35/ mt day over day. Meanwhile, transactions in South China were heard concluded at Yuan 6,950-7,000 ex-works, stable from the previous week.
