Asian Polypropylene: Prices fall as tracking weaker Brent futures / Tight supply cushions PP price decline / Converters cut purchases amid high costs / Chinese producers clear stocks before Golden Week

Asian polypropylene prices declined in the week to Sept. 23, pressured by a drop in Brent futures. domestic Chinese raffia-grade polypropylene at 9,850 yuan/metric ton ex-works China, down 300 yuan/mt week over week. Front-month ICE Brent futures fell $6.05/barrel over the same period to $99.78/b as of 4:30 pm Singapore time on Sept. 23. Market sources largely attributed the decline in domestic polypropylene prices to weaker crude oil futures. However, supply remained “tight,” which helped cushion the fall, a China-based trader said. On the demand side, converters were unable to accept elevated prices and were purchasing only as needed, according to a Chinese producer.
