Asian bottle-grade polyethylene terephthalate prices fell in the week to Sept. 23, weighed by lower upstream costs and the onset of a seasonal lull in demand. PET FOB China at $1,140/metric ton Sept. 23, down $10/mt from the previous week. PET FOB Southeast Asia was assessed at $1,230/mt, stable over the same period. Upstream, the ICE November Brent futures contract fell $8.24/barrel week over week to $99.82/b at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT) Sept. 23. On the feedstock front, purified terephthalic acid at $926/mt FOB China Sept. 23, down $43/mt from the previous week, while monoethylene glycol ended at $765/mt CFR China Sept. 18. A producer viewed the high PTA prices as unsustainable, given that supply was not fundamentally tight. The source expected waning demand to eventually pressure prices....
