Asian Paraxylene: Prices fall tracking upstream markets / Tight supply outlook expected through December / Polyester producers face negative cash margins

Asian paraxylene prices fell day over day Sept. 25, tracking the fall in upstream markets. the Asian paraxylene CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea markers at $1,259.67/mt and $1,238.67/mt, respectively, Sept. 25, both falling $9/mt day over day. Upstream, the front- month ICE Brent futures contract fell 46 cents/b to $105.79/b compared with the previous trading session, while the naphtha C+F Japan marker $22.50/mt lower on the session at $908.5/mt. A producer surveyed expected tightness to continue in the near term. “Given the tight supply outlook, I expect PX prices to remain high through December. Beyond January, it is quite difficult to predict,” the producer said, adding, however, that low downstream inventories could see prices rise further, should demand pick up.
