Asian methanol prices closed lower Aug. 15 amid sluggish spot demand and ample supply. Methanol inventories of around 1 million mt in East and South China, coupled with tight tank space, weighed on Chinese coastal methanol prices Aug. 15. East China methanol down Yuan 23/mt day over day at Yuan 2,312/mt ex-tank on Aug. 15, amid discussions at Yuan 2,312-2,313/mt ex-tank. Few fixed-price bids and offers were heard in the Chinese dollar-denominated market, though offers at a 1%-1.5% premium to the ICIS Specific Origin China methanol price for September delivery were heard. A 5,000-mt parcel arriving in China mid-September was heard traded at $261/mt CFR China on Aug. 15.
