Asian Paraxylene: Prices up $5/mt, ending week on firm note ./ PX-MX spread widens to $166.83/mt, five-year high / China PX imports climb 2.18% MOM

Asian paraxylene prices rose $5/mt day over day to $857.33/ mt Aug. 22, driven by persistently tight regional availability. The PX-MX spread widened further, potentially boosting paraxylene supplies in the near term. At the Asia close on Aug. 22, the spread between Asian paraxylene and its feedstock, isomer-grade mixed xylene, widened to more than a five-year high of $166.83/mt. According to data, the spread was the widest since Dec. 27, 2019, when it was at $168.33/mt. The average spread was $103.20/mt in the first half of 2025, but has widened to $136.60/ mt so far in H2 2025.
