South Asia PE: Prices edge lower on soft demand / South Asian HDPE film at $940/mt / LLDPE at $930/mt

The price for most PE grades dropped slightly in the South Asian polyethylene market in the week to Aug. 20 amid no letup in soft demand and the extended rainy season in parts of India. Despite some concerns over supply tightening from the Middle East region, price negotiations were not supported throughout the week as demand has yet to pick up, sources said. "Generally, we start seeing firmness in demand during this period before the major festivals in India. However, this year, due to rains in some parts and no major impact on availability, the buying interest is still weak," a major international supplier said.
