Purified terephthalic acid prices in India rose in the week to Aug. 22, tracking feedstock paraxylene values during the week, while the spread between CFR China and CFR India prices also widened amid an uptrend in freight rates from various Asian origins. Asian PX prices ended the week on a firm note, driven by persistently tight regional availability. The PX-MX spread widened further, potentially boosting PX supplies in the near term. PTA CFR India up $2/mt day over day and up $22/mt from Aug. 14 at $716/mt on Aug. 22, placing the spread to CFR China at $78/mt. The weekly average rose $7.65/mt to $706.4/mt CFR India.
