Asian paraxylene prices rose Aug. 20 led by an improvement in upstream oil prices. the Asian paraxylene CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea markers at $838/mt and $817/mt, respectively, on Aug. 20, both up $2.83/mt day over day. Crude oil futures were higher at the Asian close Aug. 20, after the American Petroleum Institute report estimated that crude oil inventories declined 2.2 million barrels week over week. US crude inventories fell by 2.4 million barrels in the week ended Aug. 15, according to API data released late Aug. 19. Official figures from the EIA are due later in the global day Aug. 20. At the Asian close, front-month ICE Brent October futures rose 46 cents/b to $66.42/b. Intraday PX spot prices looked fairly weak amid concerns of struggling downstream PTA demand...
