The South Asian polyethylene market saw prices edging lower in the week to Sept. 3 due to persistently weak demand. A continued downtrend in the South Asian region comes amid an extended rainy season in several parts and largely stable material availability. The discussion levels for LDPE, HDPE and LLDPE dropped further this week, as buying interest failed to pick up despite the market approaching festival season. "It seems the producers are quoting higher rates initially but are also open to discounts to boost sales, which indicates weakness in demand," said an India-based source.
