The Asian methyl methacrylate markets were weaker in the week ended Aug. 20 as poor demand against a backdrop of rising supplies following the restart of several MMA plants, following planned and unplanned shutdowns, weighed on prices. Trade sources said that it was difficult to conclude any trades due to the widening buy-sell gap. Buyers kept buying indications below $1,150/mt FOB China, while sellers pegged offers at $1,195-$1,200/mt FOB, citing high feedstock costs and squeezed margins. In China, buyers were largely sidelined following restocking activity in the previous week, a regional trader said, adding that underlying demand was still “very bad” as the bulk of applications came from the still-struggling property market.
