European Diesel Daily Market Analysis / Gasoil futures surge to five-month peak / EU declares diesel supplies remain secure

The European diesel complex rallied Sept. 19 as the underlying gasoil futures contract climbed to a five-month high. the front-month ICE low sulfur gasoil futures contract up $29.75/metric ton day over day to $1,471.50/mt, the highest price since April 7 when the Mo1 contract was assessed at $1,528/mt. The rise in gasoil futures mirrored movement in Brent crude futures, which jumped above $100/b for the first time in more than six weeks Sept. 9, after the US military destroyed five Iranian crude tankers and Iran launched retaliatory strikes on vessels across the Gulf. Bullish underlying futures propped up physical diesel cargoes, with Northwest European and Mediterranean cargoes assessed at $1,486/mt and $143.50/mt, respectively, also marking fivemonth highs.
