Asia PP: Weak on slow demand / CNOOC Daxie to start new PP line in Sep / China’s Jinneng Chemical shuts No. 3 PP line for monthlong maintenance

The Asian polypropylene market was weak in the week to Sept. 3 due to weak demand. In Vietnam, discussions were subdued after the National Day holiday on Sept. 2. China imported 1.227 mil mt of PP from January to July , according to China statistics, down 9.52% from the same period in 2024. Sources said this was due to increasing PP production in China, both from new plants and from higher running rates at existing units. In plant news, China’s CNOOC Daxie will start the other 450,000 mt/year line by September, the source said. The source added that one 450,000 mt/year line was started earlier in mid-August and produced on-spec PP on Aug. 20. The company also has an existing 300,000 mt/year PP plant at the same site.
