Asian Styrsian Styene Monomer: Prices fall amid oversupply, bearish outlook / SM futures down Yuan 80/mt / Extended cracker shutdown to have little impact on SM: source / Benzene FOB Korea down $2/mt

Styrene monomer CFR China and FOB Korea at $878.50/mt and $868.50/mt, respectively, on Aug. 29, both down $9/mt day over day, tracking a weaker domestic Chinese market. The front-month October EB2510 SM futures contract listed on the Dalian Commodity Exchange stood at Yuan 7,084/mt on Aug. 29, down Yuan 80/mt day over day as of the close of the afternoon trading session at 3 pm Beijing time. A market source attributed the continued decline in the futures market to high inventory levels, saying they were “almost approaching 200,000 mt.” Another source in China said the fall reflected participants’ bearish outlook on the SM market. “Downstream demand is very weak now.
