Asia PP: Stable on prevailing discussions / PDH run rates to trend higher for the rest of Aug / Traditional weak season

The Asian polypropylene market was stable in the week to Aug. 27 on prevailing discussions. Since the release of the anti-involution policy in China, which refers to a set of policies aimed at curbing excessive competition, domestic Chinese prices have slightly increased, traders said. There are few PP plants older than 20 years, representing around 10% of the total capacity, according to data. However, sources said this reduction in capacity will not matter if the propane dehydrogenation units continue to run well. Demand was still weak in the traditional off-season, sources said, adding that PP was in a prolonged downcycle, with global demand unlikely to exceed supply until 2028.
