Asia PE: SE Asia weakens on slow demand; China, Vietnam steady / Long Son achieves on-spec production for PE / USI Corporation to shut HDPE plant end Aug

The Southeast Asian polyethylene market softened in the week to Aug. 27, reflecting sluggish demand and weak buying interest. HDPE Film down $10/mt week over week at $920/mt CFR SE Asia on Aug. 27, while LLDPE Butene fell $15/mt week over week at $930/mt CFR SE Asia. LDPE declined $5/mt to $1,090/mt CFR SE Asia during the same period. Sources attributed the price weakness to slow demand and limited buying appetite, particularly for LLDPE. “It feels like LLDPE prices in Indonesia are softening and sentiments seem weaker. We may see LL and HD reaching the same price level over the next few weeks,” a producer said. In Vietnam, prices were rangebound week over week.
