Ample methanol stocks in China weighed on dollar-denominated Chinese methanol prices for the third consecutive day Aug. 29. Methanol inventory in east and south China totaled 1.29 million mt by Aug. 28, local market data showed. Market sources said storage tanks were full and downstream demand was lackluster. Supply from Iran to China increased after the US on July 31 sanctioned six Indian companies for importing Iranian petrochemical products, sources said. Healthy supply from the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Trinidad and Tobago also contributed to swelling methanol stockpiles in east and south China, they added.
