Asian Methanol: CFR China slips $4/mt tracking lower domestic prices / China coastal methanol inventory up 5.3% / Thin trading in SE Asia, S Korea and Taiwan / Traders eyeing India-China arbitrage opportunity

Asian methanol prices were largely stable except for CFR China methanol, which slipped $4/mt day over day to $262/mt CFR China on Aug. 22, in line with lower domestic prices. Ample methanol inventory in China weighed on market sentiment and domestic prices, sources said. Prompt spot cargoes in east China were discussed Yuan 25/mt or $3.47/mt lower day over day at Yuan 2,287-2,290/mt ex-tank on Aug. 22. Methanol inventory in east and south China rose 5.3% week over week to 1.07 million mt on Wednesday Aug. 20, data from Longzhong Information Services showed. Offers were heard at ICIS Specific Origin China plus 1% to 1.5% premium. There were a few fixed-price bids and offers.
