Asian Methanol: Prices edge higher amid gas curtailment / Short-term outlook bullish / SE Asia fundamentals balanced to tight / Asian end-users focus on lifting term cargoes

Asian methanol prices ended the week higher on the back of tightening global methanol supply. Gas curtailments in Iran and Trinidad and Tobago made the short-term outlook bullish, sources said. Domestic prices in east China rose Yuan 55/mt, or $7.58/mt, week over week, with deals done at Yuan 2,265-2,280/mt ex-tank Sept. 5. There were few fixed-price bids and offers in the market Sept. 5. However, discussions on a formula basis were heard at a 0.5% premium to 1.5% premium against ICIS Specific Origin China methanol price. The actively-traded January methanol futures contract on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed Yuan 37/mt higher from the previous session at Yuan 2,415/mt Sept. 5.
