Asian isomer-grade mixed xylene rose $6.50/mt week over week to $690.50/mt FOB Korea, $715.50/mt CFR Taiwan, and $705.50/mt CFR China on Aug. 22. All the markers were up $2/mt day over day. Price increases during the week were due to higher prices in paraxylene and upstream markets. Week over week, PX rose by $29.33/mt to $857.33/mt, resulting in a multiyear high PX-MX spread. The spread was assessed at $166.83/mt on Aug. 22, the widest since $168.33/mt on Dec. 27, 2019, according to data. The cause of the wider spread is rising MX supply in China after Shandong Yulong Petrochemical started its phase two reformer and a transalkylation unit earlier in August, sources said.
