Asian Butadiene: Firms $15/mt amid healthy demand in China / Ex-Southeast Asia cargoes sold to China / 10 kt US cargo offered

Asian butadiene firmed $15/mt day over day to $1,095/mt on Aug. 22, driven by a healthy buying appetite in China. From a week earlier, Asian butadiene marked a $15-$20/mt price increase. Spot availabilities from South Korea are seen to be limited ahead of the steam cracker turnaround season in October. Meanwhile, supplies are increasing in Southeast Asia after a restart of the naphtha-fed steam cracker in the region. Vietnam’s Long Son Petrochemicals achieved on-specification olefins production after restarting its mixed-feed steam cracker over Aug. 16-17, a source close to the company said late Aug. 20. The cracker can produce 113,000 mt/year of butadiene. Some market sources said ex-SE Asia cargoes were heard to have been traded at $1,090-1,100/mt CFR China this week.
