Asian acrylonitrile prices rose in the week to Aug. 4, amid lower inventory levels in China. acrylonitrile FOB China up $100/mt on week at $1,500/mt while CFR Far East Asia was up $35/mt on week at $1,540/mt Aug. 4. Market sources said that several upcoming and ongoing plant maintenances in the country have led to domestic supply tightness, supporting the upward trend in prices. For instance, China's Liaoning Kingfa will shut its 260,000 mt/year acrylonitrile unit on Aug. 10 for planned maintenance lasting around 25 days. China's Jiangsu Sailboat's two 260,000 mt/year ACN lines are also undergoing a planned turnaround till the end of August, leaving only one unit running, Platts reported earlier.
