Acetone tradeable indicators at $640/mt CIF SE Asia / Thin discussion for CFR China and FOB China cargoes

The Asian phenol market and the acetone market continued to move in opposing directions during the week ending August 19, with phenol CFR China rising $5/mt, while acetone CFR China fell $10/mt, at $590/mt. Platts' upstream benzene dropped $8.50/mt from week to week, to $731.50/mt at FOB Korea. Meanwhile, propylene increased $2/mt over the same time period to $745/mt. A market source reported that a trade was concluded earlier this week for 1,500 mt of acetone from South Korea at $640/mt FOB Vietnam. Source: the increase in domestic prices was due to the stronger US dollar against Vietnamese dong. However, end-users are reportedly not happy with the new price. The source stated, "I believe acetone is plentiful now." A second source indicated that CFR Southeast Asia was trading at $640/mt....
