Asian ABS: Prices hold steady as market grapples with upstream volatility / Producers cite upstream volatility, weak demand / Sep-Oct recovery outlook dims

The Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene CFR China marker at $1,520/metric ton July 29, flat week over week, reflecting a trade heard at this level. A trade was heard in the CFR China market for 100 metric tons of ABS at $1,520/mt. According to calculations, the feedstock cost for ABS, determined as the weighted average of feedstock styrene monomer, butadiene and acrylonitrile costs plus a fixed cost of $280/mt, was $1,524.45/mt July 29, down $8.50/mt from the previous week. Producers said offer levels remained steady week over week given volatility in upstream crude and styrene. “There’s not much we can do, prices just won’t rise given slower demand,” a Northeast Asia-based producer said. “It’s no use lowering prices now, customers are all in a waitand- see mood,” a separate Northeast Asia-based producer said....
