Asian Recycled HDPE: Stable amid thin trade / Virgin-recycled spread unable to cover processing costs / Buyers leaning towards high quality virgin substitutes

Asian recycled high-density polyethylene natural film pellets stable day over day at $740/mt FOB Southeast Asia on Sept. 10 amid thin trade. Sources said there was not much feedstock for the natural grade HDPE, as this was hard to collect and recycle. Black coloured HDPE resin was heard selling at around $520/mt FOB SE Asia. Although resin carrying the global recycled standard was heard to cost around 20% higher than assessed prices, a brand owner said there was hardly any trade for this, given that many brand-owners had downgraded their recycled requirements. Buyers were learning toward cheaper, higher-quality virgin substitutes, sources said. Traders said the import of scrap plastics into Southeast Asia is facing growing restrictions.
