China AA inventories low, spot prices up / SE Asia VAM demand recovers, prices firm

Asian acetic acid (AA) and vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) prices climbed on Jan. 8 amid tight supply, traders said. In China, AA inventories remained low, with spot cargoes in Jiangsu discussed at Yuan 2,550-2,600/mt ex-tank, up Yuan 75/mt from two weeks earlier. FOB China offers also strengthened, rising from $310/mt over the same period to $325-$330/mt on Jan. 8. FOB China AA at $320/mt on Jan. 8, up $15/mt from Dec. 18, while East China AA was assessed Yuan 75/mt higher at Yuan 2,576/mt ex-tank on Jan.8. Limited supply supported VAM prices in Southeast Asia. Selling indications emerged in the low $800s/mt, while buying indications were heard at $770-$780/mt CFR Southeast Asia.
