US Methanol: Market holds steady amid Fairway restart / Fairway plant back online: sources / Spot selling interest heard weak

US methanol spot prices remained stable on Oct. 24, with market sources indicating a lack of selling interest amid weak sentiment. Fairway Methanol, the 50-50 joint venture between Mitsui and Celanese, has restarted production at its 1.5 million mt/year methanol plant in Clear Lake, Texas, according to a source familiar with company operations. The plant restarted in “early October,” the source said, following an unplanned outage started Sept. 16. A distributor, buyer, and producer also corroborated the restart. Celanese did not respond to a request for comment. There was a lack of offers heard in the spot market for October or November methanol, owing to weak market sentiment, according to a market source.
