US methanol spot prices softened across the curve on Aug. 28, with spot buying heard to be quiet and the latest government data showing a sharp drop in July housing starts. Spot offers for front and forward cargo fell to 136 cents/ gal FOB ITC after the close of trading on Aug. 27, according to a market source, with the latest offers outstanding on the day Aug. 28 heard at 140 cents/gal FOB ITC across the curve. September spot methanol at 135 cents/gal FOB USG on Aug. 28, down 1 cent day over day, and flat with M2 October.
