Prices in the South Asian polyethylene market continued to drop in the week ended Oct. 1 as demand softened and negotiations declined. Although fewer import offers were heard throughout the week, price ideas reflected weak demand. The domestic market also softened during the period, even as a domestic producer lowered its offer rates for some PE grades. However, new negotiations to boost sales were not heard this week, indicating expectations of possible stability in the coming days. “LLDPE and HDPE discussion level in the local markets is low,” a Mumbai-based trader said. “Buyers may not show interest if the import offers are higher.” Two traders, one from Delhi and the other from Mumbai, shared similar views and suggested that prices for PE grades were lower.
