Asian solvent-grade mixed xylenes $6/mt lower week over week at $659/metric ton FOB Korea on Sept. 12, despite strong price signals from CPC’s tender. Taiwan’s CPC sell tender, which closed Sept. 9, was heard concluded at above $680/mt for 3,000 mt of solvent-MX for Oct. 16-Nov. 7 FOB Kaohsiung. Several market sources suggested that the cargo would flow southward to a Southeast Asian buyer. However, a range of decreasing offers was presented during the Market on Close assessment, with October cargoes being offered from $675/mt down to $660/mt. A distributor in Southeast Asia suggested that high refinery margins curtailed aromatics supply among Thailand producers, resulting in a tight supply situation in the region.
