India PTA: Prices fall on competitive offers, narrowing spread over CFR China marker / Participants expect freight rates to pick up as China markets reopen / Polyester demand low amid weaker workforce at mills

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell in the week to Oct. 10, tracking feedstock paraxylene values, which fell after having risen throughout the week, amid competitive offers from exporters leading to the narrowing of the spread between the CFR India and the CFR China markers. PTA CFR India down $17/mt day over day and $8/mt week over week at $656/mt Oct. 10, narrowing the spread to CFR China PTA to $60/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $50-$65/mt over CFR China PTA, which equated to $646-$661/mt CFR India. The weekly average PTA price fell $3.9/mt to $667.6/mt CFR India.
