India PTA: Prices up, supported by firmer upstream crude, paraxylene / Freight rates from Asian origins rise: market participants / Domestic trade activity expected to pick up next week: buyer

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India rose in the week to Oct. 24, driven by a rally in upstream crude oil prices, which supported feedstock paraxylene prices. Domestic demand, however, remained weak. PTA CFR India stable day over day and up $17/ metric ton week over week at $659/mt on Oct. 24, maintaining the spread to PTA CFR China at $52/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $50-$60/mt over PTA CFR China, which equated to $657-$667/mt CFR India. The weekly average PTA price was up $6/mt at $652/mt CFR India on Oct. 24.
