India PTA: Prices fall tracking feedstock, lower freight rates / Participants grappling with inventory buildup, poor margins / Freight rates from Asian origins to India falling

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell in the week to Sept. 19, tracking feedstock paraxylene values and a fall in containerized cargo freight rates from various Asian origins to India, which led to the narrowing of the spread between PTA CFR China and CFR India prices from a week earlier. PTA CFR India down $12/mt day over day and $11/mt week over week at $683/mt on Sept. 19, reducing the spread to CFR China to $73/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $70-$80/mt over CFR China, which equated to $680-$690/mt CFR India.
