India PTA: Prices decline, tracking weaker PX and lower containerized freight / Import demand sluggish amid PTA price volatility / Yarn consumption rises, led by orders from garment makers

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell in the week to Jan. 30, tracking lower feedstock paraxylene prices and a decline in containerized cargo freight rates from various Asian origins to India. PTA CFR India down $6/mt day over day and $13/mt week over week to $696/mt. The spread with PTA CFR China narrowed to $30/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $28-$37/mt over PTA CFR China, which equated to $694-$703/mt on a CFR India basis. The assessment was also within tradable indications heard at PX CFR Taiwan/China plus $85-$90/mt CFR India, which equated to $693-$698/mt CFR India, considering a PX-PTA conversion rate of 0.665.
