India PTA: Price falls on thin demand as high inventory levels persist / Producers, buyers grapple with high inventory / Subdued trade discussions for imports

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell in the week to Sept. 12, tracking feedstock paraxylene, which rose during the week before closing lower. The spread between PTA CFR China and CFR India prices was unchanged from a week earlier. PTA CFR India down $4/metric ton day over day and $5/mt week over week at $694/mt on Sept. 12, placing the spread to CFR China at $75/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $75-$80/mt over CFR China, which equated to $694-$699/mt CFR India. A spread indication heard at $65-$67/mt over CFR China was not considered as it could not be corroborated with the wider market. The weekly average fell $6.80/mt to $696.60/ mt CFR India.
