The Asian propylene market was up day over day on Sept. 12, on the back of tight supply. Supply was limited, particularly from South Korea, ahead of the steam cracker turnaround season starting mid-October, resulting in limited spot offers. data showed that the downstream Asian polypropylene price was stable day over day at $855/mt CFR Far East Asia on Sept. 5. The propylene-to-polypropylene spread was calculated at $65/mt, below the breakeven cost of $150/mt. Taiwan demand remained slow, producers said. Taiwan demand was lackluster, according to producers. However, given persistent slow sales and weak margins of key downstream polypropylene, some market sources expected gains to be capped.
