Asia PP: Prices fall on weak demand / Chinese inventories up / Hyosung to shut 2 PP units end-Oct for maintenance

The Asian polypropylene market was weaker due to pricing pressure in the week to Oct. 22. Most of the discussions centered around duty free, or non-dutiable cargoes, with few offers heard for Middle East cargoes, buyers and sellers said. A producer said buyers adopted a wait-and-see approach due to weak demand and falling prices. Chinese inventories were heard at around 790,000 mt, higher by 10,000 mt, according to a China-based analyst. The Dalian futures exchange for January deliveries settled at Yuan 6,619/mt ex-tank, up Yuan 47/mt day over day. Historically, there was a wider price difference between copolymers and homopolymers due to production cost variations, China-based traders said.
