India PVC: CFR India continues firming amid higher freight rates / India domestic open market prices heard around 95-98 Indian rupees/kg / Demand remains weak

The price discussions in the Indian polyvinyl chloride market were up $10/metric ton in the week to Sept. 2, amid higher offers heard from China following high freight costs. CFR India PVC suspension grade at $850/ mt on Sept. 2, under the lowest offer at $860/mt, within higher tradable indications heard between $850-$910/mt . In the domestic market, prices for ethylene-based PVC were also heard to be higher, around 95-98 Indian rupees/kg on an exworks basis, according to several market sources. However, according to most market players, demand remained weak, and higher prices were the result of a shortage of cargo supplies from China, plus ongoing countervailing duties research and the imposition of a local minimum import price, which kept prices firm.
