India PTA: Price down WOW tracking upstream values, fall in freight costs / Buyers risk-averse amid volatility in upstream prices / Spinners unable to pass on costs to fabric mills

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell in the week to Oct. 1, tracking easing feedstock paraxylene values during the same period and a narrowing of the spread between CFR China and CFR India prices, driven by easing freight costs from China to India. PTA CFR India up $7/mt day over day and down $7/mt week over week at $1,035/mt on Oct. 1, maintaining the spread to PTA CFR China at $85/mt. The spread was within indications heard at $80- $90/mt over PTA CFR China, which equated to $1,030-$1,040/mt on a CFR India basis. The spread narrowed $5/mt week over week.
